Jamdani handloom in particular is produced there for saris as well as yardage for garments and accessories. According to popular belief, the name jamdani comes from a Persian word for a patterned or speckled cloth. Although a little nebulous, that is a good description. Flowers, spots, or other designs are applied to the cloth during the weaving process in this handloom weaving method. Each design is manually added by the weavers using distinct threads as they weave the cloth on a hand-operated, non-electric loom. Jamdani's gorgeous and ecological fabrics would undoubtedly appeal to other fabric aficionados.
